National survey on educommunication in Spanish Universities during the COVID-19 pandemic: methodology and results

Abstract

Desde finales de 2019, el mundo está sufriendo la pandemia de COVID-19. Muchos países se han visto obligados a tomar medidas excepcionales, como el cierre de muchas actividades económicas e instituciones educativas. En este contexto, muchas universidades han visto alterada su rutina de trabajo. Esta investigación pretendía estudiar cómo los estudiantes se han adaptado a esta nueva circunstancia y cómo han cambiado su metodología tradicional presencial a una metodología a distancia en pocos días. La falta de tiempo para preparar los nuevos materiales, junto con el desconocimiento de los medios técnicos para llevar a cabo esta tarea, ha provocado una situación sin precedentes. El objetivo de esta investigación es sondear las percepciones de los estudiantes universitarios españoles sobre la aplicación de esta metodología de enseñanza y analizar las dificultades encontradas. Para ello, nos hemos apoyado en una metodología cuantitativa, basada en la administración de un cuestionario, que nos ha permitido obtener respuestas que pueden ayudar a establecer las directrices futuras necesarias. Aunque han entendido que las circunstancias excepcionales requerían una enseñanza online, los resultados muestran que los alumnos tienden a preferir la enseñanza presencial.

Since the end of 2019, the world is experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries have been forced to take exceptional measures, such as closing many economic activities and educational institutions. In this context, many universities have seen their work routine altered. This investigation aimed at studying how students have adapted to this new circumstance and how they have changed their traditional face-to-face methodology to a distance methodology in a few days. The lack of time to prepare the new materials, together with a lack of knowledge of the technical means to carry out this task, has caused an unprecedented situa-tion. The objective of this research is to survey the perceptions of Spanish uni-versity students on the application of this teaching methodology and to analyze the difficulties encountered. To achieve this, we relied on a quantitative method-ology, based on the administration of a questionnaire, which allowed us to obtain answers that can help establish the necessary future guidelines. Although they have understood that the exceptional circumstances required online teaching, the results show that students tend to prefer face-to-face education.
