Abstract

Teaching is a profession with a long history. Teachers have been practising their profession since ancient Egypt and as the years have progressed, the teaching profession has improved and incorporated new tools and resources to carry on the profession. At the end of the last century, we could start to observe how technologies were becoming established in society, and at the beginning of the current century they began to be used for educational purposes. In this paper I have tried to reflect how game-based educational methodologies have emerged and are being used. Specifically, escape rooms. For this reason, a bibliographical review of the existing documentation has been carried out, in which the history of education has been summarised through relevant events. Subsequently, the new methodologies and resources available for teaching were analysed, paying attention to their characteristics and the positive effects they generate in students during the learning experience. Finally, a design was made of what could be an educational escape room, in the breakout modality, applicable to students in 6th grade of primary school.
