El uso de herramientas de interpretación asistida por ordenador en intérpretes en formación

Abstract

En el presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster se pone a prueba la utilidad de la herramienta de IAO InterpretBank para intérpretes en periodo de formación. Para llevar a cabo el análisis se ha optado por partir de una pequeña muestra de seis estudiantes del Máster de Interpretación de Conferencias de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Para llevar a cabo el experimento primero, se ha dividido a los sujetos en dos grupos y se les ha pedido que interpreten el mismo discurso, de dificultad media con elementos que para el momento de aprendizaje suponen un potencial desafío adicional como cifras y terminología compleja. El grupo A ha usado la herramienta de IAO InterpretBank como herramienta de apoyo a la interpretación y el grupo B ha interpretado sin ningún tipo de herramienta de apoyo, tan solo con un cuaderno y un bolígrafo para apuntar. Una vez ya grabadas las interpretaciones se transcribieron para poder analizar los errores y aciertos con respecto al discurso original mediante una rúbrica y se compararon los resultados tanto entre los sujetos del mismo grupo como entre ambos grupos. En conclusión, mediante este análisis cualitativo se han podido identificar ciertas tendencias entre ambos grupos. En el grupo que usó la herramienta los datos objetivos pasaron con mayor frecuencia y mejor contextualizadas que en el grupo que no usó la herramienta. Además, la oralidad y fluidez fue mejor en el grupo A que en el grupo B.

This Master’s thesis examines the usefulness of the InterpretBank CAI tool for trainee interpreters. To carry out the analysis, a small sample of six students from the Master’s in Conference Interpreting at Universidad Pontificia Comillas was selected. To complete the experiment, the participants were divided into two groups and asked to interpret the same speech, of medium difficulty and containing elements that present an additional potential challenge at this stage of their training such as figures and complex terminology. Group A participants used the CAI tool InterpretBank as an assisting tool, whilst group B interpreted without any support tools, using only a notebook and pen to take their notes. Once the interpretations had been recorded, they were transcribed so that errors and correct responses could be analysed against the original speech using a rubric, and the results were compared both within the same group and between the two groups. In short, this qualitative assessment has identified certain patterns between both groups. In the group that used the tool, objective details were conveyed more frequently and were better contextualised than in the group that did not use the tool. Furthermore, oral delivery and fluency were better in group A than in group B.
