El liberalismo, contradicciones y aporías

Abstract

os días 2 y 3 de abril de 2025 se celebró la Universidad Sergio Arboleda, de Santafé de Bogotá, el XVI Congreso Internacional de la Asociación Colombiana de Juristas Católicos, organizado por la Unión Internacional de Juristas Católicos (Roma) y el Consejo de Estudios Hispánicos Felipe II (Madrid), con la colaboración del Grupo Sectorial en Cien - cias Políticas de la Federación Internacional de Universida - des Católicas (París) y el Instituto Internacional de Estudios Europeos Antonio Rosmini (Bolzano). El Congreso está estructurado en cuatro ponencias, cada una de las cuales contó con tres expositores. En la prime - ra, «¿Qué es el liberalismo?», intervinieron Camilo Noguera (Santafé de Bogotá), Flavio Alencar (Rio de Janeiro) y Julio Alvear (Santiago de Chile). Seguidamente, expusieron en la sesión sobre «La evolución del liberalismo» Francisco Flórez (Santafé de Bogotá), Juan Fernando Segovia (Mendoza) y Fernán Altuve-Febres (Lima). A continuación, Manuel Marín (Santafé de Bogotá), Alejandro Ordóñez (Dillwyn, Virginia) y Miguel Ayuso (Madrid), trataron de «Las aporías del libera - lismo». Y, finalmente, Rodrigo Fernández (Ciudad de Méji - co), Nicolás Romero (Santafé de Bogotá) y Danilo Castellano (Udine) afrontaron la «Necesidad de una salida para el go - bierno de las sociedades». No puede negarse que el tema sea del mayor interés, actual y perenne al tiempo. Tampoco que las singulares pregun - tas formuladas no resulten de una pertinencia extrema. Las respuestas, de eso se trata ahora, han alcanzado particular relieve. En el orden especulativo como en el práctico. Y, dentro de éste, en el ético, jurídico o político. También en el pedagógico. El liberalismo, con su desconocimiento del orden, teológico y natural, es la tentación de nuestro tiempo. Sin alejarse de ella no hay gobierno posible para las sociedades.

On April 2 and 3, 2025, the 16th International Congress of the Colombian Association of Catholic Jurists was held at Sergio Arboleda University in Santafé de Bogotá. It was organized by the International Union of Catholic Jurists (Rome) and the Felipe II Council of Hispanic Studies (Madrid), with the collaboration of the Political Science Sectoral Group of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (Paris) and the Antonio Rosmini International Institute of European Studies (Bolzano).

The Congress was structured around four papers, each with three speakers. In the first, “What is Liberalism?”, the speakers were Camilo Noguera (Santafé de Bogotá), Flavio Alencar (Rio de Janeiro), and Julio Alvear (Santiago de Chile). Next, in the session on “The Evolution of Liberalism,” presentations were given by Francisco Flórez (Santafé de Bogotá), Juan Fernando Segovia (Mendoza), and Fernán Altuve-Febres (Lima). Then, Manuel Marín (Santafé de Bogotá), Alejandro Ordóñez (Dillwyn, Virginia), and Miguel Ayuso (Madrid) addressed “The Aporias of Liberalism.” Finally, Rodrigo Fernández (Mexico City), Nicolás Romero (Santafé de Bogotá), and Danilo Castellano (Udine) dealt with the “Need for a Way Out for the Governance of Societies.”

It cannot be denied that the topic is of the greatest interest, both current and perennial. Nor can it be denied that the particular questions raised are extremely relevant. The answers, which are the focus here, have acquired particular importance, both in the speculative and practical orders—and, within the latter, in the ethical, legal, or political spheres, as well as in the pedagogical sphere. Liberalism, with its disregard for the theological and natural order, is the temptation of our time. Without moving away from it, no governance of societies is possible.
