El efecto de los accidentes aéreos en las acciones de las aerolíneas

Abstract

Estudiamos los efectos de los accidentes aéreos sobre los precios de las acciones de las compañías aéreas afectadas. Damos un repaso por los distintos estudios acerca de los accidentes aéreos: su concepto y sus distintos efectos, causas, costes. Utilizamos una muestra final de 15 accidentes de los 10 países con mayor PIB del mundo. De la muestra completa concluimos que únicamente observamos retornos anormales acumulados negativos el mismo día del accidente, no pudiendo aceptar nuestra hipótesis en el resto de intervalos estudiados.

We study the effects of aircraft accidents over stock prices of the airlines affected by the accident. We make a quick review of the different studies concerning these aircraft accidents: concept, different effects, causes, costs. We use a final sample of 15 accidents of the 10 biggest GDP countries all over the world. Using the full sample we conclude that we only observe negative Average Cumulative Abnormal Returns in the day of the accident, not being able to accept our hypothesis the rest of the studied intervals.
