¿Es la violencia un coste o una oportunidad para la economía?

Abstract

Nos hemos acostumbrado a la presencia de la violencia. Su ubicuidad en las noticias y, para algunos de nosotros, en nuestros barrios, nos ha vuelto insensibles al impacto de esta condición prevenible. La violencia caracteriza al terrorismo. El propósito de este estudio es comprender el efecto de la violencia terrorista en la economía doméstica de un grupo terrorista. Para lograr esta meta, nos enfocamos en estudiar el impacto de la violencia terrorista en las principales variables económicas de una economía. El conocimiento se adquirió mediante la revisión exhaustiva de la literatura ya existente y mediante el estudio del caso que proporciona un análisis cuantitativo de dos economías: la de Irlanda del Norte y la del País Vaso. Los resultados muestran que cuando ocurren atentados en un país, las variables económicas se ven negativamente afectadas, y por lo tanto el conjunto de la economía.

We have become accustomed to the presence of violence. Its ubiquity in the news and, for some of us, in our own neighbourhoods has made us insensitive to the shock of this preventable condition. Violence is a hallmark of terrorism. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of terrorist violence on the origin economy of a terrorist group. To gain this in-depth comprehension, will we study how terrorist violence affects the performance of the main economic variables of the terrorist groups’ home economy. To gain the in-depth knowledge required for this study an exhaustive review of previous literature and case study methodology will be utilized, involving a quantitative analysis of the primary economic variables of the economies of Northern Ireland and the Basque Country. The results show that during times of violence, the main economic variables of the home economy of the perpetrating terrorist group were negatively impacted, thus damaging the overall performance of the economy in question.
