EE. UU. ante el cambio climático : ¿un legado en peligro?

Abstract

A la vista de la grave amenaza que plantea un cambio climático inminente para el planeta y la sociedad, el propósito de este proyecto de investigación es comprender el alcance y la proyección real de la política ambiental de Barack Obama destinada a reducir la huella de CO2 de EE. UU. El trabajo proporciona un desglose de las acciones legislativas y ejecutivas implementadas a lo largo de las dos legislaturas, la mayoría de las cuales fueron establecidas en el marco de la EPA y teniendo que lidiar con la oposición de un Congreso Federal predominantemente Republicano. Además, el documento analiza la nueva política de Donald Trump frente al cambio climático, esencialmente en el ámbito internacional. El análisis permitirá conocer el nivel real de rigidez y sostenibilidad del legado medioambiental del presidente Obama.

Considering the increasingly severe threat that an impending climate change poses to the planet and society, the purpose of this research project is to understand the real scope and projection of Obama’s environmental policy aimed at reducing US CO2 footprint. The paper provides a breakdown of the specific legislative and executive actions implemented throughout the two terms of administration, most of them set within the framework of the EPA and having to deal with the opposition of a predominantly Republican Federal Congress. Additionally, the paper analyses the rollback in Obama’s green legacy put forward by President Donald Trump since he came into office, especially in the international arena. This indeed will give light to the actual level of rigidity and sustainability of President Obama’s climate change legacy.
