Relación entre el estrés adoptivo, la apertura comunicativa intrafamiliar y la adaptación de los adolescentes adoptados internalmente

Abstract

Este estudio se propuso como objetivo explorar la comunicación sobre adopción dentro de las familias que han adoptado internacionalmente, analizando los contenidos que se abordan y a qué edades se comienza a hablar de estos aspectos. Asimismo, se pretendía estudiar la relación entre el estrés adoptivo, la comunicación intrafamiliar, y la adaptación del menor adoptado. La muestra constó de 87 familias (padres o madres con hijos adoptados por vía internacional con edades entre 10 y 20 años en el momento del estudio) que contestaron al “Cuestionario de Adaptación Familiar a la Adopción Internacional” y al Listado de Conductas Infantiles CBCL. Los resultados mostraron que las familias empiezan a hablar de adopción entre los 3 y los 6 años y siguen un patrón progresivo en cuanto a las temáticas que se abordan. Los temas de los que menos se habla son la posibilidad de buscar a la familia biológica, las diferencias físicas o raciales, y los motivos de la separación de la familia biológica. La mayoría de los menores de esta muestra se encuentran en el rango normal en cuanto a adaptación, observando una relación significativa entre el estrés adoptivo y los problemas de adaptación del menor. No se encontró un efecto indirecto significativo del estrés sobre la adaptación del menor a través de la comunicación.

The aim of this study was to explore the communication about adoption within families who have adopted internationally, analyzing what contents are explored and at what ages does the exploration of the different contents start. The aim was also to study the relationship between the adoption stress, the intrafamilial communication, and the adaptation of the adopted minor. The sample comprised 87 families (fathers or mothers with children adopted internationally, aged between 10 and 20 at the time of the survey) who answered the "Family Adjustment Intercountry Adoption Questionnaire" and the Child Behavior Check List CBCL. The results showed that families start talking about adoption between 3 and 6 years old and follow a progressive pattern relating the matters being explored. The contents least discussed are the possibility of searching for the biological family, the physical or racial differences, and the reasons for separation of the biological family. The majority of the minors included in this sample are within the normal range of adaptation, showing a significant relationship between the adoption stress and the adaptation problems of the minor. The results did not highlight a significant indirect effect of the stress on the adaptation of the minor through communication.
