Relación de la fratía y el divorcio con la diferenciación del self

Abstract

La familia necesita una estructura viable para promover la individuación de sus miembros y, simultáneamente, proporcionarles un sentimiento de pertenencia. En esta línea, el objetivo de la presente investigación fue estudiar el efecto de dos variables de la estructura familiar (fratría y divorcio) en la Diferenciación del Self. La muestra la constituyeron 412 sujetos españoles de edades comprendidas entre los 18 y 47 años, que se clasificaban en cuatro grupos en función de si tenían o no hermanos y de si sus padres estaban o no separados. Se empleó como instrumento la versión traducida al castellano del Differentiation of Self Inventory-Revised (DSI-R) y se analizaron los datos mediante un ANOVA de dos factores. En cuanto a los resultados obtenidos, no se encontró efecto ni de la fratría ni del divorcio de los padres, pero sí de la interacción de ambas variables estructurales sobre la Diferenciación del Self. Dicha interacción permite concluir que el divorcio de los padres afecta de manera distinta al nivel de Diferenciación del Self alcanzado en la vida adulta en función de si existe o no fratría. Además, se encontraron efectos significativos de estos factores estructurales sobre algunas dimensiones de la Diferenciación del Self: la fratría promueve la Posición del Yo, el divorcio la Reactividad Emocional y hay un efecto de la interacción fratría-divorcio sobre la Reactividad Emocional y el Corte Emocional. Finalmente se plantea la necesidad de completar estos resultados investigando la mediación que ejercen las variables relacionales sobre el proceso de diferenciación.

Family needs a viable structure to promote the individualization of its members and, simultaneously, provide them with a sense of belonging. With this in mind, the aim of this investigation was to study the effect of two variables of the family structure (siblings and divorce) in the Differentiation of the Self. The sample comprised of 412 spanish subjects, with ages ranging from 18 to 47, which were classified into four groups depending on whether or not they had siblings and whether or not their parents were divorced. For this investigation, The Spanish edition of the Differentiation of the Self Inventory (DSI-R) was used and the data was analyzed with an ANOVA of two factors. The results indicated that there is no effect either from having siblings or from parents beign divorced but there is an effect from the interaction of both structural variables over the Differentiation of the Self. This interaction leads to the conclusion that the divorce of parents has a different effect on the level of Differentiation of the Self attained in adulthood depending on whether or not there are siblings involved. Additionally, a significant influence of these structural factors was found over some dimensions of the Differentiation of the Self: the existence of siblings promotes the I Position, divorce promotes Emotional Reactivity and, there is an influence of the interaction between divorce and siblings over the Emotional Reactivity and Emotional Cutoff. Finally, there is a need to complete these results ivestigating the mediation that relational variables have over the process of differentiation.
