Análisis de la viabilidad económica del modelo actual de streaming de música a largo plazo desde el punto de vista del artista

Abstract

Este trabajo de fin de grado estudia el streaming dentro de la industria musical, y como se ha llegado al problema del value gap que afecta a los artistas hoy en día. Para ello primero se ha hecho un recorrido a través de los cambios tecnológicos más importantes en la historia de la música y como la industria se ha adaptado a ello. Más adelante veremos como el streaming ha pasado de ser una alternativa a ser la principal fuente de ingresos dentro de una industria que se encontraba deprimida y ha iniciado los primeros pasos hacia la recuperación. Veremos el panorama actual, y los problemas que acechan tanto a la industria como a los artistas, el ya mencionado value gap, los safe harbours y la piratería. Seguiremos el trabajo con un análisis del modelo de streaming actual, a través de los dos servicios con mayor cuota de mercado, Spotify y Apple Music, y veremos que sistema usan estos servicios para pagar a los creadores de contenido. Finalmente, en las conclusiones he propuesto lo que considero que debería ocurrir para eliminar estos problemas.

This end-of-grade project studies streaming within the music industry, and how it has come to the problem of the value gap that affects artists today. To do this, we first made a journey through the most important technological changes in the history of music and how the industry has adapted to it. Later we will see how streaming has gone from being an alternative to being the main source of income within an industry that was depressed and has begun the first steps towards recovery. We will see the current panorama, and the problems that threaten both the industry and the artists, the aforementioned value gap, safe harbors and piracy. We will continue the work with an analysis of the current streaming model, through the two services with the largest market share, Spotify and Apple Music, and we will see what system uses these services to pay content creators. Finally, in the conclusions I have proposed what I think should happen to eliminate these problems.
