Análisis de la inversión en energías renovables en España

Abstract

La creciente concienciación pública en materia del cambio climático está marcando el dinamismo del sector energético en España. Cada vez hay más incentivos que pretenden impulsar el desarrollo de las energías limpias, así como la eficiencia energética. Si bien se puede considerar este hecho una externalidad positiva para el sector de las energías renovables, a día de hoy aún no se han alcanzado los objetivos dictados por la Unión Europea.

Los inversores confían en el auge del sector, y a pesar de que en los últimos años los retornos obtenidos no se consideran excepcionales, incluso muchas instalaciones renovables no son ni rentables, las perspectivas del sector son positivas mientras a nivel global se apunta hacia la transición energética y el abandono de las fuentes de energía convencionales. Por otro lado, el marco regulatorio que rige el sector es el principal determinante del desempeño del mismo, siendo uno de los sectores más regulados de nuestra economía.

Las posibilidades de inversión son infinitas, tanto para el inversor retail, como institucional, e independientemente de la exposición al sector que se desee tener, siempre existe una alternativa: desde acciones en empresas cotizadas, participaciones en Exchange Traded Funds, hasta promotor de instalaciones o participar en una estructura de Project Finance.

En resumen, los inversores confían en la industria de la energía renovable y la continua mejora en materia de eficiencia energética hacia una economía sostenible. El desarrollo del sector ha traído consigo numerosas posibilidades que se adaptan a cada tipo de inversor, y cada vez son más los que apuestan por un futuro energético sostenible.

The increasing public awareness on climate change is guiding the present dynamism of the energy sector in Spain. Incentives seeking to promote the development of clean energy and energy efficiency are constantly increasing. Nevertheless, although this fact can be considered as a positive externality for the renewable energy sector, the objectives dictated by the European Union in 2009 have not yet been achieved.

Investors trust in the coming rally of the sector, and despite the fact that during recent years the returns obtained cannot be considered exceptional, given that still many renewable energy plants are not profitable, the outlook for the sector is positive, since on a Global level targets aim energy transition and the abandonment of conventional energy sources. On the other hand, the regulatory framework that governs the sector is the main determinant of its performance, being it one of the most regulated sectors of our economy.

The possibilities for investment are endless, both for retail investors, as well as for institutional ones, and regardless of the exposure to the sector desired, there is always an alternative: from owning stock on listed companies, or stakes in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), becoming a project developer, or even participating in a Project Finance structure.

All in all, investors are confident towards the renewable energy industry and the continuous improvement in energy efficiency, building a future towards a sustainable economy. The dynamism of the sector has brought several possibilities that can fit any type of investor, and the number of those who believe in a sustainable clean-energy future is growing every day.
