Salvaguardia del patrimonio cultural durante la Guerra Civil Española : actuaciones nacionales e internacionales : un precedente para la II Guerra Mundial

Abstract

El conflicto armado siempre ha sido un enemigo para la conservación del patrimonio cultural de un Estado. Durante la Guerra Civil española, en torno a diez mil obras artísticas fueron almacenadas y trasladadas fuera de las fronteras para su preservación. Entre los diversos factores que contribuyeron al salvamento del patrimonio artístico español, se encuentran, de un lado, las medidas adoptadas en el ámbito nacional; y del otro, la ayuda internacional recibida por España en el seno del Comité Internacional para el Salvamento de los Tesoros de Arte Españoles. Este trabajo analizará las actuaciones tanto nacionales como internacionales llevadas a cabo entre 1936 y 1939 para la salvaguardia de la cultura española. La gestión realizada en este periodo sentó un precedente para la posterior actuación de los Estados durante la II Guerra Mundial. Se pondrá asimismo de manifiesto la carencia de una normativa internacional a este respecto en aquel momento, que se creará a mediados del siglo XX de la mano de la UNESCO.

Armed conflict has always been an enemy for the preservation of a State’s cultural heritage. During the Spanish Civil War, around ten thousand works of art were moved outside the Spanish borders for their preservation. Among the various factors that contributed to the rescue of Spanish artistic heritage, are, on the one hand, the measures adopted at a national level; and on the other hand, the international aid received within the International Committee for the Salvation of Spanish Art Treasures. This Final Degree Project will analyze the national and the international measures carried out between 1936 and 1939 to safeguard the Spanish culture. The management carried out in this period set a precedent for the subsequent action of the States during World War II. Furthermore, these activities inspired UNESCO's activity to create the current legal mechanisms that currently protect cultural heritage.
