La evolución del matrimonio en la Edad Moderna a través de las fuentes indirectas

Abstract

En el presente trabajo de investigación se realiza un análisis de la institución del matrimonio centrándonos en su evolución a través de la historia: se observa el recorrido del mismo y sus principales transformaciones hasta el final de la Edad Moderna (siglo XVIII). Se centra en su aspecto o consideraciones de carácter jurídico pero también social: hay que tener en cuenta que se trata de una de las figuras que más empapada ha estado de los principios y valores del cristianismo predominantes en el mundo occidental. La parte final aborda la temática desde una perspectiva diferente y original: el arte y la pintura. Será a través de los seis cuadros que conforman la obra llamada “Casamiento a la moda” de William Hogarth, que reflejan de forma magistral la realidad social del momento.

This thesis performs an analysis of the institution of marriage, focusing on its evolution throughout history: we observe its course and its main transformations until the end of the Modern Age (18th century). It focuses on both its legal and social aspects: we must bear in mind that it is one of the figures that have been most steeped in the principles and values of Christianity that were predominant in the Western world. The final part approaches the subject from a different and original perspective: art and painting. It will be through the six paintings that make up the work called Marriage à-la-Mode by William Hogarth, which masterfully reflect the social reality of the moment.
