Cuidadores de personas mayores dependientes : cómo afecta la demencia en la familia

Abstract

Vivimos en una sociedad en la que cada vez hay más personas mayores, por lo tanto, mayores tasas de dependencia. Una de las principales causas de la dependencia es la demencia, entre las que predominan la Enfermedad de Alzheimer. Resulta importante no solo entender al mayor dependiente, ni las circunstancias que lo rodean, sino también qué sucede con su contexto más próximo; la familia. Actualmente la unidad familiar es el espacio dónde con mayor frecuencia se llevan a cabo las labores del cuidado del mayor, principalmente, llevados a capo por un cuidador principal. No podemos quedarnos sólo con esta figura, sino tratar de entenderla dentro de su propio sistema. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal el acercarse a esta comprensión multifactorial de las repercusiones que la enfermedad tiene en el sistema familiar y qué se puede hacer desde él para que la calidad de vida de todos sus protagonistas sea la mejor posible, durante el máximo tiempo posible

Our society now a days we found a growth on the number of elderly people, therefore higher dependency rates. Dementia is one of the main causes of dependence, among the Alzheimer's disease predominates. It is important not only to understand the major dependent, nor the circumstances that surround it, but also what happens with its closest context; the family. Currently, the family unit is the space where the care work of the elderly is carried out most frequently, mainly carried out by a main caregiver. We can not stay with this figure alone, but try to understand it within its own system. The main objective of this work is to approach this multifactorial understanding of the repercussions that the disease has on the family system and what can be done from it so that the quality of life of all its members could be the best possible, during the maximum time possible.
