Las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) : una nueva problemática

Abstract

Objetivo: El objetivo principal de este estudio fue analizar la posible relación entre el uso problemático de las TIC (Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación) y los síntomas y/o problemas de ansiedad y/o depresión. Del mismo modo, otro objetivo fue analizar las diferencias entre hombres y mujeres respecto a las mismas variables. Método: Se trabajó con una muestra de 305 sujetos de edades comprendidas entre los 18 y los 34 años, 58,7% de los participantes fueron mujeres y el 41,3% restante, hombres. Todos ellos cumplimentaron las escalas HADS (mide en dos subescalas los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión) y el cuestionario MULTICAGE-TIC (mide en cinco subescalas el uso problemático de móvil, Internet, redes sociales, videojuegos y mensajería). Resultados: No se observó una relación positiva entre los síntomas de ansiedad y el uso problemático de las TIC. Sin embargo, está relación si fue positiva en el caso de la depresión. Las mujeres puntuaron más alto en niveles tanto de ansiedad como de depresión. En relación a los diferentes tipos de uso problemático en función del género, si se hallaron diferencias. Las mujeres puntuaron más alto en las subescalas de móvil, mensajería instantánea y redes sociales. En cuanto a las otras dos subescalas (videojuegos e Internet) no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas. Discusión: A pesar de que los resultados del presente estudio no sean determinantes, tanto este trabajo como la literatura ratifican la relación entre este nuevo problema y determinados tipos de psicopatología. Se recomienda establecer futuras líneas de investigación ya que es un tema de gran actualidad y cuya problemática, debido al auge de la tecnología, puede ir en aumento, por lo tanto, será necesario establecer unas bases de estudio más claras.

Results: It was not found a positive correlation between the symptons of anxiety and the problematic use of ICT. Nevertheless, this correlation was positive in the case of depression. Women scored higher on levels of both anxiety and depression. Differences were found in relation to the different types of problematic use according to gender. Women scored higher on the subescales of mobile, instant messaging and social networks. Not statistically significant differences were found on the other two subescales (videogames and Internet). Discussion: Although the results of this study are not determinant, both this work and the literature ratify the relationship between this new problem and certain types of psychopathology. It will be necessary to establish future lines of research since, due to the advance of technology this problem may increase. So it will be necessary to establish a clearer basis for the problematic use of ICT.
