La intervención del Trabajador Social en una unidad de cuidados paliativos pediátricos con padres que atraviesan un duelo anticipado

Abstract

El presente trabajo aborda el tema de los Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos, su funcionamiento en España y cuál es el papel que tiene el Trabajador Social dentro del equipo que compone la unidad. Así mismo, se desarrolla cual es la intervención que hace el Trabajador Social con aquellos padres que atraviesan un duelo anticipado por la muerte de un hijo. La muerte, y sobre todo de un la de un ser querido, desde siempre ha sido un tema difícil de tratar y abordar. Entre otras razones, porque se educa desde la línea del positivismo, y no se enseña a las personas a afrontarla a pesar de que se pueden enfrentarse a ello en algún momento de su vida. De esta forma, se propone una guía práctica de habilidades y competencias que debe tener un Trabajador Social cuando trabaja e interviene con dichas familias que pierden un hijo. Asimismo, se proponen habilidades desde el momento que los padres reciben la noticia del desenlace que tendrá la enfermedad de su hijo, hasta después de fallecer éste. Es decir, se analiza detalladamente la intervención durante el duelo anticipado y el duelo por la muerte de un hijo.

This paper deals with the topic of Pediatric Palliative Care, how it works in Spain and what role Social Workers have within the team that makes up the unit. Social Workers intervention with those parents who go through anticipated mourning for the death of a child is one of the main aspects analyzed. It is always complicated to deal with death, and above all the death of a loved one. Education from the line of positivism and the absence of preparation condition our perspective. This investigation includes a proposal with a practical guide of skills and competencies that a Social Worker must have when working and intervening with families. Parents need some skills since they receive the news of the outcome of their child's' illness, until after the death. For this purpose, the proposal includes the main competencies, and it also analyzes how to intervene during the anticipated mourning and the mourning for the death of a child.
