¿Qué es la transexualidad? Una guía sobre diversidad sexual y de género

Abstract

La transexualidad afecta a la identidad de género ya que la persona no se identifica con su sexo biológico sino con otro sexo. Desde su retirada del DSM-IV-TR, el término se está despatologizando. Evidencia de ello es la Ley 3/2007, de 15 de marzo, reguladora de la Rectificación Registral de la Mención Relativa al Sexo de las Personas y una asistencia pública por parte de unidades específicas en diferentes hospitales españoles. Según informan los mismos, la prevalencia oscila entre 3.8 y 22.1 por 100.000 personas al año. La transexualidad por tanto es una realidad en España y requiere nuestra atención. No obstante, existe cierta confusión y prejuicios que hace preciso transmitir información verídica sobre su situación actual. Por esto se decidió elaborar la primera guía de información basada en literatura científica que atiende las demandas más habituales de los usuarios que obtuvimos a través de un cuestionario online.

Evidence of this is the "Law 3/2007, of March 15, regulating the Registry Rectification of Mention Relating to the Sex of Persons" as well as the emergence of specific units in different Spanish hospitals within public assistance. Prevalence ranges from 3.8 to 22.1 per 100,000 people per year. Transsexuality is therefore a reality in Spain and requires our attention. However, there is some confusion and prejudices that makes it necessary to transmit truthful information about the current situation. For this reason we decided to develop the first informational guide based on scientific literature in response to the most common demands of users that we obtained through an online questionnaire.
