La Función del Secretario de Estado en la Política Exterior de Estados Unidos

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la función del secretario de Estado en la política exterior de Estados Unidos, estudiando las razones por las que el jefe del Departamento de Estado tiene una mayor o menor relevancia en el plano internacional y en el diseño de la política exterior estadounidense. De este modo, se presentan los poderes constitucionales del gobierno federal y las relaciones entre las diversas partes de la Administración para posteriormente investigar varios casos de análisis y comprender de qué depende la relevancia del secretario de Estado en una Administración. Asimismo, se analiza la situación actual del Departamento de Estado en el gobierno de Donald J. Trump.

This paper examines the role of the Secretary of State in U.S. foreign policy, studying the underlying reasons that explain whether the head of the State Department plays a greater or lesser role in the international arena and in the design of the U.S. foreign policy. It presents the legal powers of the federal government and the relationships between the various parts of the Administration and then goes on to investigate different cases of analysis and to understand what makes the Secretary of State relevant in a given Administration. It also discusses the current status of the State Department in the Donald J. Trump Presidency.
