El finalismo histórico de Fukuyama. Análisis después de tres décadas de evolución

Abstract

La finalidad de este trabajo es la de profundizar en la teoría acerca del “fin de la Historia”, enunciada por primera vez en 1989 por el autor Francis Fukuyama en su ensayo homónimo. Esta teoría catapultó a Fukuyama a la primera plana en lo que al terreno académico se refiere, lo que generó un indudable impacto tanto en la política como en la economía de finales del s. XX, cuyas implicaciones permanecen hasta la fecha. Equiparable a su fama fue su controversia, y este trabajo se centrará en cómo ha evolucionado dicha teoría, a través de un detallado análisis. Tras estudiar en profundidad el concepto del Fin de la Historia, –caracterizado por la idea de que la Historia tiene un desarrollo lineal, y por tanto, ha de alcanzar un final, asociado con el logro de la democracia liberal, como la más perfecta forma de organización política– se llevará a cabo un estudio acerca de cómo las ideas del autor han ido evolucionando y adaptándose, hasta llegar al estado de su postura actual, en la que ya no afirma con tanta vehemencia el advenimiento de un fin de la Historia con carácter terminal. Asimismo, se buscará ahondar en sus precedentes dentro del desarrollo del pensamiento, con la intención de comprender de una manera profunda las motivaciones que llevaron al autor a desarrollar esta particular teoría.

The aim of this paper is to provide further knowledge of the “end of History” theory, enunciated by scholar Francis Fukuyama for the first time in 1989. This thesis launched Fukuyama to fame and to worldwide critic scrutiny, generating a significant impact in politics and economy in the late years of the 20th century, which consequences can still be traced to current times. After carrying a deep examination of the idea of the end of History –characterized by a linear understanding of History that implies the reaching of an end, associated with the achievement of liberal democracy, portrayed as the most perfect form of political organization– an analysis regarding the evolution of the author’s ideas will be carried out, in order to understand the adaptation of the theory to his current line of thinking, far from assuring a definitive end of History. Furthermore, we will delve into its theoretical precedents, with the intention of understanding in a deep way the motivations that led the author to develop this particular theory.
