El mundo de las apuestas : una perspectiva desde el behavioural finance

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende indagar en un tema novedoso, extrayendo una importante lección sobre el desarrollo de las finanzas tradicionales hacia una teoría descriptiva, el behavioural finance. ¿Cómo se puede sostener el motor de la economía, el mercado financiero, sobre un paradigma de teorías, que aunque no vayan a quedar obsoletas, no son capaces de proporcionar argumentos coherentes y congruentes que justifiquen las anomalías que se exhiben en los mercados? Dada la dificultad de refutar las finanzas tradicionales a través del complejo mercado financiero, este estudio se centra en un mercado mucho más simplificado, el mercado de apuestas hípicas. Si bien continúa siendo altamente representativo; dicho mercado presenta características favorables para investigar si los conceptos del behavioural finance se presentan en él. Se entiende que será el primer estudio empírico de estas particularidades en España.

This paper aims to delve into a fresh topic, providing a thorough understanding regarding the evolution of the traditional finance paradigm towards the descriptive theory of behavioural finance. How is it so that the financial market, driver of the economy, is based upon a financial paradigm that, although far from becoming obsolete, fails to provide a series of congruent reasons to justify the anomalies observed in the markets? The difficulty in refuting such theories enlightens the essence of this study, focusing on a much simplified market, yet still highly representative; the horserace betting market. It aims to determine whether behavioural finance concepts are observable in such markets. To the authors understanding, it will be the first empirical study regarding the subject to be carried out in Spain
