The resurgence of nationalism is a concept that is gaining more and more importance in the world and, in particular, in the European Union due to the events of the last decade. This paper corresponds to an analysis of the growth of nationalism, in particular the case of Catalonia and Scotland will be studied to understand how these events could endanger the survival of an institution like the European Union. In the first part, the State of the Art, the basic concepts necessary to understand the detailed analysis will be presented. In addition, the second part is divided into three development axes that include sociological and political criteria considered, concerning the different types of nationalism within the European Union. Also, the political and legal consequences of each nationalism will be analysed for each case. Finally, an analysis of the European Union's regulatory and strategic approaches needed to ensure its cohesion and solidification. Conclusions will be drawn from this analysises_ES
