Abstract

La muerte es el acto más humano y, al mismo tiempo, más deshumanizante de nuestras vidas. Es una realidad con dos caras muy distintas. Por un lado, la muerte como experiencia personal muestra de manera radical quiénes somos, lo mejor y lo peor de nuestras biografías tantos años acumuladas. Por otro lado, acompañar, sentir y dolerse por la muerte de otro es una experiencia vital que puede construir o destruir para siempre las vidas de los que aquí quedamos. Los profesionales sanitarios hacemos de este segundo rostro de la muerte nuestra vocación y eso, sin duda, marcará el modo en que un día tengamos que mirar cara a cara nuestro propio fin. En este libro, destacan dos protagonistas principales: la muerte, en pacientes, con nombres propios todos ellos, y los profesionales sanitarios. Múltiples miradas que nos acerquen a un misterio con el que todos, en algún momento, nos tenemos que enfrentar. Death is the most human act and, at the same time, most dehumanizing act of our lives. It is a reality with two very different faces. On the one hand, death as a personal experience shows who we are in a radical way, the best and the worst of our biographies so many years accumulated. On the other hand, accompanying, feeling and suffering for the death of another is a vital experience that can build or destroy forever the lives of those who remain here. Health professionals make this second face of death our vocation and that will undoubtedly mark the way in which one day we have to look face to face with our own end. In this book, two main protagonists stand out: death, in patients, with their own names, and healthcare professionals. Multiple looks that bring us closer to a mystery that we all have to face at some point.
