La mujer en las carreras STEM: situación actual en España y factores críticos

Abstract

La brecha de género es una realidad que se ve reflejada en diversos sectores de la economía de un país, pero sobretodo, cuando se analiza el entorno de las carreras STEM. Con una presencia femenina en el sector STEM español inferior al 40%, el presente trabajo ha considerado pertinente analizar esta situación, tanto en las universidades españolas como en el mercado laboral. Con el fin de ahondar en las causas que determinan la baja representación, se han analizado los factores influyentes tanto en la baja tasa de matriculación femenina en carreras STEM, como en la escasa presencia en el mercado laboral de este sector. Por último, el trabajo no pasa por desapercibido realizar una breve comparativa acerca de como se vive esta situación en el mundo, tomando de referencia dos de los países que conforman la Unión Europea viendo así que factores influyen y que acciones se están tomando en otras economías similares a la española.

The gender gap is a reality that is reflected in various sectors of a country's economy, but above all, when analyzing the STEM careers environment. With a female presence in the Spanish STEM sector of less than 40%, this paper has considered it relevant to analyze this situation, both in Spanish universities and in the labor market. In order to delve into the causes that determine the low representation, we have analyzed the factors influencing both the low rate of female enrollment in STEM careers, as well as the low presence in the labor market in this sector. Finally, the work does not go unnoticed to make a brief comparison of how this situation is experienced in the world, taking as a reference two of the countries that make up the European Union to see what factors influence and what actions are being taken in other economies similar to the Spanish one.
