Supervivencia de la comunidad Jasídica en la Ciudad globalizada de Nueva York

Abstract

En un mundo cada vez más globalizado, surgen dilemas acerca de la preservación de la identidad cultural y de las relaciones entre grupos con orígenes, valores, costumbres y lenguas distintas. Este estudio se centra en el caso de la ciudad global de Nueva York y la comunidad judía jasídica que vive en Nueva York. La ciudad de Nueva York se caracteriza por su gran influencia en la economía, la cultura, el arte, la educación y la investigación a nivel mundial. Además, las grandes olas de inmigración que han llegado a la ciudad a lo largo de la historia explican su increíble diversidad cultural y étnica. Todo ello la convierte en una ciudad global. Por otro lado, la comunidad judía jasídica es un grupo hermético y aferrado a sus creencias religiosas e identidad cultural. Reflejan esta identidad cultural a través de sus costumbres, ritos religiosos, vestimenta y lengua. Sin embargo, en materias como la economía y los negocios son más flexibles, debido a ciertos intereses. Factores como el compromiso de los ciudadanos de Nueva York y las instituciones por la lucha contra la intolerancia, o la función de organizaciones como vía de comunicación entre ambas partes, favorecen la convivencia pacífica. Sin embargo, otros factores como el creciente antisemitismo en la ciudad de Nueva York, y el desconocimiento acerca del otro, generan una situación de tensión.

In an increasingly globalized world, dilemmas arise about the preservation of cultural identity and relationships between groups with different backgrounds, values, customs and languages. This study focuses on the case of the global city of New York and the Hasidic Jewish community living in New York. New York City is characterized by its great influence on the global economy, culture, art, education and research. In addition, the large waves of immigration that have come to the city throughout history account for its incredible cultural and ethnic diversity. All this makes it a global city. On the other hand, the Hasidic Jewish community is a hermetic group that clings to its religious beliefs and cultural identity. They reflect this cultural identity through their customs, religious rites, clothing and language. However, in matters such as economics and business they are more flexible, due to certain interests. Factors such as the commitment of New York citizens and institutions to the fight against intolerance, or the role of organizations as a means of communication between the two sides, favor peaceful coexistence. However, other factors such as the growing anti-Semitism in New York City, and the lack of knowledge about the other, generate a tense situation.
