dc.description.abstract | ESG Rating Agencies have a fundamental role in the financial markets due to the boom in sustainable investments. The agencies are in charge of rating companies upon environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. With these ratings, investors establish their investment portfolios. This paper will test the inconsistency in the ratings of these agencies with the consequent confusion that it generates among investors. The need to seek standardization among the agencies will be developed though the discussion. In addition, it will look at "new" criteria for investment, criteria that stem from the Social Doctrine of the Church, and which put the men at the center of investment decisions. These moral criteria make it possible to guide investment decisions in a way that is consistent with the Catholic faith and without sacrificing profitability. An analysis of the companies comprising the Euro Stoxx 600 shows that a portfolio composed of companies that meet these criteria would have generated a higher annualized return over three, five and ten years than that obtained by a portfolio of companies that do not meet these criteria. | en-GB |
