De la obligación de navegar en flota

Abstract

Esta investigación se centra en analizar la obligación de navegar utilizando el sistema de navegación en flota, durante el siglo XVI. Este sistema, fue un elemento fundamental para asegurar el tránsito atlántico hacia América en la Carrera de Indias. Entre 1543 y 1564 se reguló la obligación de navegar en flota hacia américa con fines comerciales, imponiendo dicho sistema, mediante la promulgación de numerosas Ordenanzas reales. Durante este periodo, los Reyes Católicos fundaron la Casa de Contratación de Sevilla. Esta institución se encargó de gestionar y regular el comercio con América, así como regular el sistema de navegación en flota. Tanto el sistema de navegación en flota, como la Casa de Contratación hispalense, fueron elementos clave para asegurar el monopolio comercial español en América, dando lugar a uno de los periodos en los que España ha experimentado mayor prosperidad, consolidándose como la principal potencia europea.

This research focuses on analysing the obligation to navigate using the fleet navigation system during the 16th century. This system was a fundamental element to ensure the Atlantic transit to America in the Route to the Indies. Between 1543 and 1564, the obligation to sail in fleet to America for commercial purposes was regulated, imposing this system through the promulgation of numerous royal ordinances. During this period, the Catholic Monarchs founded the Casa de Contratación of Seville. This institution was in charge of managing and regulating trade with America, as well as regulating the fleet navigation system. Both the fleet navigation system and the Casa de Contratación of Seville were key elements in ensuring the Spanish commercial monopoly in America, giving rise to one of the periods in which Spain experienced the greatest prosperity, consolidating its position as the main European power.
