La digitalización de la banca ante la amenaza de los "Gigantes tecnológicos" – Las BigTech

Abstract

Ante un contexto actual de transformación tecnológica, la primera parte se enfocará a la adaptación digital del sector bancario. Desde una primera visión global del funcionamiento y la evolución histórica de la banca española hasta la implementación del Big Data y las herramientas digitales, pasando por las nuevas tendencias y necesidades que esta nueva era está causando. Se tratarán ejemplos los tres líderes bancarios españoles y su adaptación a las nuevas preferencias de sus clientes. Posteriormente se tratan los principales líderes tecnológicos estadounidenses, examinando su evolución y la fuerte entrada que están realizando de manera global. En el capítulo 4 se analiza la relación entre el sector bancario y la irrupción de esos líderes tecnológicos conocidos como las “BigTech”. Por una parte, la posible asociación y colaboración y por otra la competencia entre ambas. En cuanto al análisis de la competencia, es decir, de la amenaza que supone para la banca la aparición de estas compañías, se estudia la intrusión que están llevando a cabo en los negocios financieros. Y, para acentuar este punto, se trata el tema regulatorio tanto en la banca como en las BigTech. El trabajo finaliza con una conclusión respondiendo a la pregunta de la amenaza que suponen las grandes tecnológicas en el sector de la banca.

In the current context of technological transformation, the first part will focus on the digital adaptation of the banking sector. From an initial overview of the functioning and historical evolution of Spanish banking to the implementation of Big Data and digital tools, as well as the new trends and needs that this new era is causing. Examples of the three leading Spanish banks and their adaptation to the new preferences of their customers will be discussed. This is followed by the main US technology leaders, examining their evolution and the strong entry they are making globally. Chapter 4 analyses the relationship between the banking sector and the emergence of these technological leaders known as "BigTech". On the one hand, the possible partnership and collaboration and, on the other, the competition between the two. With regard to the analysis of competition, i.e. the threat posed to banking by the emergence of these companies, the intrusion they are carrying out in the financial business is studied. And, to emphasize this point, the regulatory issue in both banking and BigTech is addressed. The paper ends with a conclusion answering the question of the threat posed by big tech in the banking sector.
