Research Report: A review of service-learning in european higher education

Abstract

El aprendizaje Servicio es un método relativamente nuevo en la educación superior europea, y hasta ahora no hay instituciones oficiales que proporcionen datos organizados y de fácil acceso sobre el. Esta es una de las razones por las que EOSLHE decidió que había una necesidad urgente de reunir experiencias existentes y revisar la literatura sobre el terreno. Existe una preocupación generalizada y creciente con respecto al compromiso social de las instituciones de educación superior. S-L está ganando reconocimiento como una metodología innovadora que responde a tal desafío. S-L is a relatively new method in European higher education, and as yet there are no official institutions providing organized and easily accessible data on S-L. This is one reason why EOSLHE decided that there was an urgent need to bring together existing experiences and review the literature in the field. There is a widespread and growing concern regarding the social commitment of higher education institutions. S-L is gaining recognition as an innovative methodology that responds to such a challenge. Besides disseminating information on S-L, EOSLHE also draws on extant data to carry out research on the main characteristics of S-L in Europe. The main results of this research have shown that Europe has its own idiosyncrasies regarding S-L. European higher education is playing an active role in this increasingly global phenomenon. Society demands social responsibility and civic commitment from tertiary education institutions, and S-L not only meets this requirement but also strengthens teaching and research
