¿Fue el Mandato británico sobre Palestina favorable para el surgimiento del Estado de Israel?

Abstract

El surgimiento del Estado de Israel se ha afianzado como uno de los acontecimientos recientes que mayor interés y controversia suscita en el campo de las relaciones internacionales. Sin embargo, y más allá del impacto que este suceso haya podido tener en Oriente Próximo, no se puede obviar la importancia del propio proceso de emersión del Estado judío de Israel. En este sentido, el papel ejercido por el Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte a través del Mandato que le fue encomendado por la Sociedad de Naciones al término de la Primera Guerra Mundial debe ser analizado para dilucidar su posible importancia en lo que a este hito se refiere. En este trabajo se analizará el papel ejercido por la entonces potencia colonial sobre el territorio que hoy componen el Estado de Israel y los territorios palestinos actualmente definidos en la Franja de Gaza y Cisjordania. En concreto, y además de la correspondiente contextualización histórica que nos permita entender el porqué del surgimiento del Mandato y su propio desarrollo, se observarán y analizarán variables que colaboren a esclarecer si las tres décadas de dominio británico fueron determinantes para la proliferación de las aspiraciones judías.

The emergence of the State of Israel has established itself as one of the most interesting and controversial recent events in the field of international relations. However, beyond the impact this event may have had on the Middle East, the importance of the process of the emergence of the Jewish State of Israel itself cannot be overlooked. In this sense, the role played by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland through the mandate entrusted to it by the League of Nations at the end of the First World War must be analyzed in order to elucidate its possible importance in terms of this milestone. This paper will analyze the role exercised by the then colonial power over the territory that today makes up the State of Israel and the Palestinian territories currently defined in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Specifically, and in addition to the corresponding historical contextualization that allows us to understand the reason for the emergence of the mandate and its own development, we will observe and analyze variables that help to clarify whether the three decades of British rule were decisive for the proliferation of Jewish aspirations.
