Impacto del populismo de derechas en la calidad de la democracia

Abstract

En los años recientes, el fenómeno populista de derechas está en auge. Gran parte de las democracias europeas han presenciado la irrupción de este tipo de populismo, que ha logrado alcanzar cargos, tanto en la oposición como en los propios puestos de gobierno. La narrativa excluyente de la derecha radical ha sido considerada un potencial riesgo para el respeto y tolerancia de las minorías como aspecto relevante de la democracia liberal. Por otro lado, el excepcionalismo ibérico mantenía a España y Portugal ajeno al mensaje político de la derecha radical. La irrupción de Chega y Vox en los últimos años, ofrece la oportunidad de estudiar las implicaciones del populismo en los niveles de discriminación e intolerancia de los colectivos minoritarios. A través de una rigurosa aproximación al caso de Vox y Chega en España y Portugal respectivamente, este estudio trata de cuestionar el impacto del populismo de derechas en los niveles de tolerancia social, particularmente cuando se refiere a la representación parlamentaria de estos partidos.

In recent years, the right-wing populist phenomenon is on the rise. Most European democracies have witnessed the irruption of this type of populism, which has managed to reach positions both in the opposition and in the government itself. The excluding narrative of the radical right has been considered a potential risk for the respect and tolerance of minorities as a relevant aspect of liberal democracy. On the other hand, the Iberian exceptionalism kept Spain and Portugal away from the political message of the radical right. The emergence of Chega and Vox over the past years offers the opportunity to study the implications of populism on the levels of discrimination and intolerance of minority groups. Through a rigorous approach to the case of Vox and Chega in Spain and Portugal respectively, this study attempts to question the impact of right-wing populism on the levels of social tolerance, particularly when referring to the parliamentary representation of these parties.
