Comunicación de malas noticias: función enfermera

Abstract

El profesional de enfermería es una pieza clave en el cuidado íntegro del paciente, no solo son quienes realizan técnicas y procedimientos, sino que son ellos los que comparten con el paciente, la mayor parte de su tiempo durante su hospitalización. Por lo que, a la hora de comunicarles malas noticias, es importante que el enfermero conozca y adquiriera ciertas habilidades de comunicación para que el trato sea más humano y empático. El objetivo de este proyecto es conocer cual es el papel del enfermero cuando se está comunicando al paciente una mala noticia, así como conocer los protocolos a seguir en este tipo de situaciones e identificar obstáculos con los que se enfrenta el profesional. Es un estudio observacional descriptivo, de carácter transversal. Se realizará a través de una encuesta, con sus respectivas variables, al profesional de enfermería de cuidados paliativos de la Fundación Instituto San José, para llegar al objetivo final. El proceso comunicativo será el correcto cuando sea individualizado, en el momento y lugar apropiado, teniendo en cuenta tanto al paciente como a la familia y caracterizado por la empatía, humanización y escucha activa.

Nursing is a key piece of the patient’s complete care, nurses are not only the ones who do the care techniques and the procedures, but they are also the ones who share with the patient most part of their time during their hospitalization. Therefore, in the process of communicating bad news, it is important for the nurse to know and to acquire good communication skills so that the delivery of bad news is more human and empathetic. The aim of this project is to describe the role of the nurse when bad news is being communicated to the patient, to know the protocol nurses follow in this type of situation and to identify the difficulties that nurses face when delivering bad news. This is a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study. It will be carried out through a questionnaire, with their respective variables, designed to be completed by the Fundación Instituto San José‘s palliative care nursing professionals. The process of communicating bad news will be considered as "optimal" when it is individualized to the patient's needs, at the appropriate time and place, paying attention both the patient and the family and characterized by empathy, humanization and active listening.
