Sexualidad y tercera edad

Abstract

Las creencias falsas asociadas a la sexualidad en la tercera edad pueden provocar el cese de la actividad sexual en los ancianos, por un lado, y actitudes discriminatorias hacia los mismos, por otro. La sexualidad durante la vejez es una realidad, siendo, además, un factor de calidad de vida, y la existencia de estos mitos repercuten en la salud y los derechos sexuales de los más mayores. Se hacen necesarios más estudios que clarifiquen qué aspectos inciden en la sexualidad en la vejez, puesto que debido al tema tabú que este tema representa, siguen siendo escasos, más aún sobre la tercera edad y el colectivo LGTB. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar qué factores psicológicos, sociales y biológicos inciden en la actividad sexual de este grupo etario a partir de una revisión bibliográfica, con el fin de desmitificar las falsas creencias que afirman que la sexualidad en la tercera edad no existe.

False beliefs associated with sexuality in the elderly can cause the cessation of sexual activity in the elderly, on the one hand, and discriminatory attitudes towards them, on the other. Sexuality during old age is a reality, and it is also a quality of life factor, and the existence of these myths has repercussions on the health and sexual rights of the elderly. More studies are needed to clarify what aspects affect sexuality in old age, since due to the taboo subject that this topic represents, they are still scarce, even more so on the elderly and the LGTB community. The objective of this work is to analyze what psychological, social and biological factors affect the sexual activity of this age group from a bibliographic review, in order to demystify the false beliefs that affirm that sexuality in the third age does not exist.
