Un análisis macroeconómico del Mundial de Sudáfrica de Fútbol 2010

Abstract

Este proyecto lleva a cabo el estudio del impacto que generó la Copa del Mundo de la FIFA 2010 en Sudáfrica como país anfitrión. Para ello, se estudiará su efecto en variables macroeconómicas como el turismo y el empleo a partir del modelo de Corrección de Errores Vectoriales (VEC), y se analizarán otras variables macroeconómicas como el Producto Interior Bruto. Tras el estudio pertinente, se afirma que la Copa del Mundo de la FIFA celebrada en 2010 tuvo un impacto positivo en todas estas variables macroeconómicas, y que además ayudó al desarrollo urbano y económico de los distintos lugares del país. Concretamente, se divisó un aumento tanto en el número de turistas nacionales e internacionales, una subida del empleo y un crecimiento en la tasa de variación del PIB nacional en ese año. De forma complementaria a este estudio macroeconómico, se añade en la primera parte del proyecto un contexto tanto social como económico del país denominado como “Situación anterior a la Copa del Mundo 2010 en Sudáfrica” el cual ayuda a entender como se encontraba el país antes del gran evento deportivo.

This project studies the impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on South Africa as host country. To this end, its effect on macroeconomic variables such as tourism and employment will be studied using the Vector Error Correction (VEC) model, and other macroeconomic variables such as Gross Domestic Product will be analysed. After the relevant study, it is argued that the FIFA World Cup held in 2010 had a positive impact on all these macroeconomic variables, and that it also helped the urban and economic development of different parts of the country. Specifically, an increase in the number of national and international tourists, a rise in employment and a growth in the rate of change of national GDP in that year were noted. In addition to this macroeconomic study, the first part of the project includes a social and economic context of the country called "Situation before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa", which helps to understand how the country was before the great sporting event.
