Segregación Escolar. Un análisis comparativo entre Estados Unidos y España

Abstract

En la actualidad existen varios indicadores que demuestran la discriminación y exclusión en nuestro sistema educativo, en especial de tipo étnico o socioeconómico. En este sentido, los gobiernos han promulgado diferentes políticas educativas para paliar esta realidad, respondiendo siempre a las dificultades que se añadían sin conseguir eliminar esta problemática, aunque sí la hayan disminuido con el paso del tiempo. Sobre este trasfondo, el objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las causas de la segregación escolar. En concreto, se plantea este análisis en dos países: EEUU y España. La razón de elegir estos dos países es mi propia experiencia, he realizado mis prácticas en España y un mes en Estados Unidos. Para intentar entender las causas de la segregación escolar en ambos países, primeramente he analizado el concepto de segregación y los tipos que encontramos; posteriormente he recopilado las políticas educativas a lo largo de la historia de Estados Unidos y España. Además del análisis bibliográfico, en el trabajo se presenta un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo del tema a través de entrevistas y cuestionarios que ha permitido indagar más acerca de la realidad segregadora que se vive en los centros educativos españoles y estadounidenses, lo cual ha permitido constatar los aspectos desarrollados en el marco teórico sobre la segregación escolar.

Currently there are several indicators that demonstrate discrimination and exclusion in our educational system, especially of an ethnic or socioeconomic nature. In this sense, governments have enacted different educational policies to alleviate this reality, always responding to the difficulties that were added without managing to eliminate this problem, although they have diminished it over time. Against this background, the objective of this work is to analyze the causes of school segregation. Specifically, this analysis is proposed in two countries: the USA and Spain. The reason for choosing these two countries is my own experience, I have done my internship in Spain and one month in the United States. To try to understand the causes of school segregation in both countries, I have first analyzed the concept of segregation and the types that we find; subsequently I have compiled educational policies throughout the history of the United States and Spain. In addition to the bibliographical analysis, the work presents a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the subject through interviews and questionnaires that has allowed us to investigate more about the segregating reality that exists in Spanish and American educational centers, which has allowed us to verify the aspects developed in the theoretical framework on school segregation.
