La (des)cortesía en la Comunicación Política Un análisis comparativo de su expresión y peso en español e inglés.

Abstract

El estudio de la cortesía como función lingüística, que modela y se ve afectado por el contexto sociopolítico y cultural, es fundamental para entender la comunicación política y orientarla hacia la consecución de los objetivos que las figuras políticas se proponen. Es, a menudo, una herramienta considerada como irrelevante y obsoleta, pero que, desde los comienzos de la política, ha sido y es imprescindible para evitar los conflictos que puedan emerger con la pretensión de atajarlos para beneficio de los interlocutores. Por tanto, el emisor debe tener un conocimiento amplio de esta si desea que sus receptores se muestren dispuestos a colaborar y generar un clima estable en los parlamentos y en la política en general. Se debe analizar, de esta manera, las claves que permitan entender el uso de esta herramienta en dichos contextos con la intención de identificar su variabilidad, su posible cambio y su eficacia, ya que aporta una clara ventaja para aquellos comunicadores que la comprenden y la usan a su favor. En este trabajo, por tanto, se observará la evolución de las teorías de la cortesía, así como de la concepción de la comunicación política, con el objetivo de aplicarla a discursos actuales, y demostrar hasta qué punto es relevante el uso extenso de la imagen y cortesía – positiva y negativa – en su redacción.

The study of politeness as linguistic function, which models and is affected by the sociopolitical and cultural context, is fundamental to understand political communication nowadays and guide it towards the achievement of the goals that politicians set in their agendas. It is often disregarded as irrelevant and obsolete, but since the beginning of politics it has been and is essential to avoid any conflict that could possibly emerge with the objective of tackling them for the speakers’ benefit. Moreover, the sender must have a broad understanding of the matter if he/she wishes for its receivers to adopt a cooperative attitude towards them and to create a stable environment within parliaments and politics in general. An analysis of the key factors that allow for this tool to be acknowledged is, thus, vital to identify its variability, plausible change and efficiency, as it clearly offers a significant advantage for those communicators that implement it on their favour. Therefore, this present work, will observe the evolution of politeness theories and the fundamentals of political communication with the final objective of applying this knowledge into the analysis of relevant and recent political speeches. All this to demonstrate the extent to which the use of face and politeness, both negative and positive, is relevant in its drafting.
