El discurso de Hugo Chávez y el odio como arma política

Abstract

El presente trabajo constituye una investigación de la retórica del presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez a través del análisis de la violencia discursiva ejercida en cinco de sus discursos. Tras definir el concepto de discurso de odio, así como cuáles son sus características principales, la autora elaboró ocho categorías con las cuales identificar la presencia del discurso de odio en dichos corpus. Dichas categorías se importaron al software Nvivo, que sirvió como herramienta para recopilar expresiones violentas, así como para cuantificarlas. El análisis expone el uso del discurso de odio de manera sistemática y sostenida a lo largo de las alocuciones del expresidente, así como ejemplos específicos de su uso y consecuencias.

This dissertation constitutes an investigation of the rhetoric of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez through the analysis of the discursive violence exercised in five of his speeches. After defining the concept of hate speech, as well as its main characteristics, the author elaborated eight categories with which to identify the presence of hate speech in said corpora. These categories were imported into the Nvivo software, which served as a tool to collect violent expressions, as well as to quantify them. The analysis exposes the use of hate speech in a systematic and sustained manner throughout the speeches of the former president, as well as specific examples of its use and consequences.
