Desde su aparición, las criptomonedas han experimentado un rápido crecimiento y en la actualidad gozan de una fuerte presencia internacional. Estas monedas virtuales y su tecnología subyacente, blockchain, presentan unas expectativas a futuro muy interesantes. No obstante, la crisis climática que atravesamos nos lleva a preguntarnos qué efecto tienen estos activos sobre el medioambiente. El gran consumo de energía y de recursos, así como su efecto contaminante son realmente preocupantes. Por ello, han surgido diversas soluciones para garantizar la sostenibilidad de las criptomonedas y aprovechar su potencial futuro sin amenazar nuestro planeta.

Since their emergence, cryptocurrencies have experienced rapid growth and now enjoy a strong international presence. These virtual currencies and their underlying technology, blockchain, have exciting prospects for the future. However, the current climate crisis raises the question of what effect these assets have on the environment. The high consumption of energy and resources, as well as their polluting effect, are of real concern. For this reason, various solutions have emerged to ensure the sustainability of cryptocurrencies and to take advantage of their future potential without threatening our planet.
