La influencia del Orientalismo en las sociedades occidentales, y su resultado en el ejercicio de la política de seguridad de Occidente en Oriente Medio

Abstract

Este TFG tiene como objetivo analizar la forma en que Occidente ha creado una imagen de Oriente como “el otro”, a través del fenómeno conocido como Orientalismo. A partir de esta supuesta realidad simplificada del mundo Oriental, se han justificado acciones militares y políticas en la región. Aunque este concepto comenzó a forjarse en el siglo XX, se reactivó a gran escala tras los ataques del 11 de septiembre y la consiguiente legitimación de la "Guerra contra el terrorismo" iniciada por EE.UU. También se destacará la relevancia que este fenómeno ha tenido sobre la sociedad civil, ya que para justificar acciones de guerra, es importante contar con el apoyo de la población, por lo que la visión parcial que otorga el Orientalismo debe analizarse no solo a nivel político, sino también social.

Además, se tiene como objetivo analizar la política de seguridad actual y determinar cuál será su futuro. ¿Seguirá Occidente siendo la cuna de valores del mundo globalizado? Este estudio se enfocará en un análisis riguroso y crítico de las dinámicas de influencia del Orientalismo occidental en Oriente Medio, con el propósito de contribuir al debate académico y político sobre esta problemática.

This thesis aims to analyze how the West has created an image of the East as "the other" through the phenomenon known as Orientalism. Based on this supposed simplified reality of the Oriental world, military and political actions have been justified in the region. Although this concept began to take shape in the 20th century, it was reactivated on a large scale after the September 11 attacks and the subsequent legitimization of the "War on Terror" initiated by the United States. The relevance of this phenomenon on civil society will also be highlighted since, in order to justify war actions, it is important to have the support of the population, and thus the partial view provided by Orientalism must be analyzed not only at the political level but also at the social level.

In addition, this study aims to analyze the current security policy and determine its future. Will the West continue to be the cradle of values in the globalized world? This study will focus on a rigorous and critical analysis of the dynamics of Western Orientalism's influence in the Middle East, with the purpose of contributing to the academic and political debate on this issue.
