“LA PRIMAVERA ÁRABE EN BAHRÉIN BAJO LA SOMBRA DEL CONSEJO DE COOPERACIÓN DEL GOLFO”.

Abstract

La Primavera Árabe, con su impulso de cambio y democratización, sacudió a varios países en la región del Medio Oriente y África del Norte. Sin embargo, mientras países como Egipto, Iraq, Siria y Yemen se enfrentaban a convulsiones políticas y sociales de gran envergadura, las monarquías del Golfo no se vieron tan afectadas, excepto el caso de Bahréin. Este pequeño reino insular experimentó manifestaciones sociales significativas, pero éstas fueron rápidamente sofocadas por intervenciones exteriores regionales. En este estudio, se analizará el papel que desempeñó el Consejo de Cooperación del Golfo en los eventos que rodearon la primavera árabe en Bahréin y las causas y consecuencias de su intervención, desentrañando los motivos detrás de su activismo en la región y su impacto en el desarrollo de los acontecimientos. Desde el impacto en la estabilidad política y la represión social hasta las relaciones internacionales y los intereses geopolíticos involucrados, este estudio ofrece una visión detallada y completa de los factores que han dado forma al escenario bahreiní hasta el día de hoy.

The Arab Spring, with its drive for change and democratization, shook several countries in the Middle East and North Africa region. However, while countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen faced major political and social upheavals, the Gulf monarchies were not so affected, except in the case of Bahrain. This small island kingdom experienced significant social manifestations, but these were quickly quelled by external regional interventions. In this study, the role played by the Gulf Cooperation Council in the events surrounding the Arab Spring in Bahrain and the causes and consequences of its intervention will be analyzed, unraveling the motives behind its activism in the region and its impact on the unfolding of events. From the impact on political stability and social repression to the international relations and geopolitical interests involved, this study provides a detailed and comprehensive overview of the factors that have shaped the Bahraini scenario up to the present day.
