Abstract

Los romanos reservaban la incineración a sus muertos, no la inhumación; tal vez por eso imaginaban una tristeza sombría en el Averno, sin color, energía ni amor. Los etruscos, en cambio, hacían de la muerte algo delicioso y hasta deseable. Sus cámaras sepulcrales, de colores vivos y adornadas con escenas alegres, proporcionaban, en palabras de D. H. Lawrence, «una rara e intensa placidez».
