Bioética y ecología en el siglo XXI. Aportaciones para un diálogo

Abstract

Este libro nace de la convicción que la breve historia de cincuenta años de bioética tiene algo que aportar y enseñar a la ecología actual en su ya siglo y medio de existencia. La disciplina joven puede ofrecer algo ya al tronco adulto de la ecología. Esa aportación no es tanto en cuestiones concretas y de detalle sino probablemente en los temas de fundamentación y enfoque. No pretende arrojar luz sobre las múltiples hojas y ramas de la ecología, sino nutrir algo sus raíces. Este enriquecimiento se plantea en cuatro dimensiones a través de cuatro artículos. El primer capítulo analiza la riqueza y amplitud del diálogo interdisciplinar. La bioética por su cercanía no sólo a los problemas de salud y enfermedad del cuerpo humano, sino a las instituciones sociales y las políticas públicas ha desarrollado un diálogo interdisciplinar más amplio que ninguna otra disciplina. La segunda aportación reflexiona sobre el concepto de vida, desde la filosofía de la naturaleza, como clave esencial para comprender los distintos posicionamientos de la ecoética actual. El tercer artículo introduce el incómodo tema de la justicia en el pluralismo de las fundamentaciones de la ecología y la bioética. Finalmente, el cuarto capítulo describe la aportación de la tradición judeo-cristiana a través de los relatos bíblicos y de la reflexión del magisterio de los papas del siglo XX para acabar en una reflexión detenida sobre la centralidad de la ecología en el actual papa Francisco. Este libro es fruto de un proyecto conjunto de colaboración entre los centros de bioética de las Universidades jesuitas de España (UNIJES). Sus autores son personas que tienen la responsabilidad de dirigir los diversos centros.

This book arises from the conviction that the brief fifty-year history of bioethics has something to contribute and teach to current ecology in its century and a half of existence. The young discipline can offer something to the adult trunk of ecology. This contribution is not so much in specific and detailed issues but probably in the areas of foundation and approach. It does not aim to shed light on the multiple leaves and branches of ecology, but rather to nourish its roots. This enrichment is proposed in four dimensions through four articles. The first chapter analyzes the richness and breadth of interdisciplinary dialogue. Bioethics, due to its proximity not only to the problems of health and disease of the human body but also to social institutions and public policies, has developed a more extensive interdisciplinary dialogue than any other discipline. The second contribution reflects on the concept of life, from the philosophy of nature, as an essential key to understanding the different positions of current ecoethics. The third article introduces the uncomfortable topic of justice in the pluralism of the foundations of ecology and bioethics. Finally, the fourth chapter describes the contribution of the Judeo-Christian tradition through biblical stories and the reflection of the magisterium of the popes of the 20th century to end with a detailed reflection on the centrality of ecology in the current Pope Francis. This book is the result of a joint collaboration project between the bioethics centers of the Jesuit Universities of Spain (UNIJES). Its authors are people who have the responsibility to direct the various centers.
