El impacto del acuerdo de seguridad AUKUS en el mar meridional de China y el dilema de seguridad que plantea.

Abstract

El surgimiento de la alianza de seguridad trilateral entre Australia, Reino Unido y Estados Unidos denominada “AUKUS” ha supuesto un cambio en la arquitectura de seguridad regional en el Pacífico Sur. El principal objetivo de este acuerdo es una mayor coordinación y cooperación militar, así como dotar a Australia de submarinos de propulsión nuclear en aras de reforzar las capacidades navales australianas y hacer frente al expansionismo chino en la región. Por tanto, las potencias occidentales buscan mediante esta alianza incrementar y afianzar su presencia en la región como contrapeso a la influencia china.

Desde el anuncio de este acuerdo en septiembre de 2021, las reacciones de los Estados Sudasiáticos han sido variopintas contando con aquellos que apoyan decididamente este acuerdo y aquellos otros que lo ven como una forma de tensionar aún más el largo conflicto reinante en el Mar Meridional de China.

El objetivo de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es analizar el impacto de esta alianza en la región del Mar Meridional de China y el dilema de seguridad que plantea, su confluencia con la alianza “QUAD”, las reacciones de los Estados Sudasiáticos al AUKUS, así como determinar si estamos ante una nueva carrera armamentística en la región.

The emergence of the trilateral security alliance between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States called "AUKUS" has brought about a change in the regional security architecture in the South Pacific. The main objective of this agreement is greater military coordination and cooperation, as well as providing Australia with nuclear-powered submarines in order to strengthen Australia's naval capabilities and confront Chinese expansionism in the region. Therefore, the Western powers seek through this alliance to increase and consolidate their presence in the region as a counterweight to Chinese influence.

Since the announcement of this agreement in September 2021, the reactions of the South Asian states have been mixed, with those who strongly support this agreement and those who see it as a way to further increase tension in the long-running conflict in the South China Sea.

The objective of this Bachelor’s Degree dissertation is to analyze the impact of this alliance in the South China Sea region and the security dilemma it poses, its confluence with the "QUAD" alliance, the reactions of the South Asian states to the AUKUS security agreement, as well as to determine if we are facing a new arms race in the region.
