Conocimiento sobre cuidados paliativos en alumnos de grado de Enfermería

Abstract

Una buena formación en cuidados paliativos es fundamental para una correcta actuación enfermera y proporción de cuidados de calidad en enfermedades crónicas al final de la vida o en enfermedades terminales. El objetivo principal es evaluar el nivel de conocimientos en base a la formación adquirida en cuidados paliativos por los alumnos de grado de enfermería. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se sigue una metodología cuantitativa obteniendo datos de manera anónima, a través de un estudio descriptivo de carácter transversal. La muestra de estudio se compone de 34 estudiantes de grado de enfermería de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid. Los estudiantes, por un lado, han completado el test “Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing - Spanish Version” (PCQN-SV), validado en castellano para comprobar los conocimientos teóricos que presentan sobre los cuidados paliativos, y por otro lado, la escala de “Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale - Spanish Version” (FATCOD-SV), con el fin de conocer la actitud que muestran ante los cuidados necesarios al final de la vida. Una vez obtenidos los datos de los cuestionarios, realizados con Google Form, se analizaron y describieron mediante el programa estadístico SPSS. En conclusión, más de la mitad de la muestra presenta conocimientos suficientes sobre los cuidados paliativos. Sin embargo, no muestran actitudes favorables hacia el cuidado al final de la vida de los estudiantes de enfermería.

Good training in palliative care is essential for a correct nursing performance and provide of quality care for chronic end-of-life or terminal illnesses. The main objective is to evaluate the level of knowledge based on the training acquired in palliative care by students of nursing degree. To carry out this research, a quantitative methodology is followed, obtaining data anonymously, through a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study sample consists of 34 undergraduate students of nursing from Universidad Pontificia Comillas of Madrid. The students, on the one hand, have completed the test "Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing - Spanish Version" (PCQN-SV), validated in Spanish with the aim to check the theoretical knowledge they present on palliative care, and on the other hand, the scale of "Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale - Spanish Version" (FATCOD-SV) in order to know the attitude they show towards the necessary care at the end of life. After obtaining the data from the questionnaires, made with Google Form, they were analyzed and described through the SPSS statistical program. In conclusión, more than half of the sample has enough knowledge about palliative care. However, they do not show favorable attitudes toward end-of-life care for nursing students.
