Proyecto educativo dirigido a pacientes para el correcto uso y consumo antibiótico como prevención del desarrollo de resistencias antibióticas

Abstract

Introducción: El descubrimiento de los antibióticos como tratamiento eficaz para combatir infecciones bacterianas cambió la medicina y es considerado uno de los mayores avances de la humanidad. Sin embargo, el consumo inadecuado y el abuso por parte de los seres humanos, acompañado de la dificultad para encontrar nuevas clases antibióticas, han favorecido la aparición de bacterianas resistentes a una gran variedad de antibióticos, lo que supone un gran problema para la salud pública. Objetivos: El proyecto educativo está orientado a la educación de pacientes, para favorecer un correcto uso y consumo antibiótico, evitando su abuso, y tratando por otro lado, de prevenir factores que promueven en un primer lugar las infecciones bacterianas. Metodología: El repaso activo y el desarrollo de opinión crítica son los recursos más utilizados en el proyecto educativo con la finalidad de promover la participación activa y de favorecer la creación de interés por parte de los asistentes. Por otro lado, evitando un exceso de tareas y ejercicios se pretende favorecer la visión de las sesiones como un lugar de aprendizaje activo focalizado en el tiempo de duración de las sesiones. Implicaciones para la enfermería: Los profesionales de enfermería, mediante labores características de su profesión como la promoción, prevención y educación para la salud, constituyen piezas elementales para frenar el avance de las resistencias antibióticas creando una conciencia social del problema y tratando de favorecer un consumo y uso adecuado de las principales herramientas disponibles para acabar con las resistencias, los antibióticos.

Introduction: The discovery of antibiotics as an effective treatment against bacterial infections changed the field of medicine. Even though, they are one of humanity´s greatest achievements, their misuse and abuse paired with the inability to find new antibiotic classes have led to the increase of resistant bacteria which creates a huge public health problem. Objective: This project is oriented to the education of patients regarding the correct use and consumption of antibiotics, while trying at the same time, to prevent their abuse and the factors that facilitate bacterial infections. Methodology: Active recall and the development of critical thinking are the most used resources used in this educational project. The reason why these are the two most used methods is that the goal is to boost the involvement and interest of the applicants. Also, by avoiding excessive homework the sessions are viewed as a place where active learning takes places, not as another chore. Implications for nursing: Promotion, prevention, early intervention, and health education are between some of the most important nursing duties. Nursing professionals are key elements in stopping the advance of antibiotic resistance by creating social awareness, while at the same time, stopping misuse and abuse of antibiotics.
