The thesis analyses the importance of diversity on social media platforms and how this may be at risk due to the structure and nature of social media. Through a statistical analysis of survey data, the thesis concludes that social media platforms reflect only part of society, which reduces diversity and may exclude minorities. In addition, social media search and filtering tools, as well as personalised content selection algorithms, can create "content bubbles" and limit the diversity of content to which the user is exposed. It is also noted that the structure of social networks, together with user behaviour and the influence of the user's social circle, can limit the diversity of content. In addition to the data analysis, a literature review was conducted that highlighted the importance of diversity in social networks and its positive relationship with the globalisation of society. However, it also highlighted the responsibility and power of influence that social networks have on the information that users receive and on their identity development. Therefore, the thesis suggests that regulatory measures should be put in place to suppress the dominance of social networks and preserve diversity.es_ES
