«Fratelli tutti» interpela a Europa

Abstract

Este artículo revisa los frentes de conflicto más agudos que afronta la Unión Europea a la luz del magisterio social del papa Francisco, sobre todo de su última encíclica Fratelli tutti y de los cinco discursos dirigidos al Viejo Continente en esos ocho años de pontificado. La realidad europea hoy sufre los duros impactos de la pandemia, del terrorismo yihadista, de la inmigración, así como de la multicrisis de las instituciones, frecuentemente dominadas por lógicas tecnocráticas, y está siendo campo abonado para populismos, nacionalismos y propuestas neoliberales. El papa Bergoglio se ha dirigido varias veces en sus ocho años de pontificado a unas sociedades en proceso de integración política, en tiempos de grandes turbulencias, pidiéndoles que tengan muy presentes los valores comunitarios, la dignidad trascendente del ser humano, la cultura del encuentro y la multipolaridad/transversalidad en el abordaje de los problemas. Asimismo, les pide también que no olviden la memoria integradora del pasado, para afrontar el presente y abrir camino a un futuro de esperanza, con responsabilidad hacia el conjunto del mundo.

This article reviews the most acute conflict fronts faced by the European Union in light of Pope Francis's social magisterium, especially his latest encyclical Fratelli tutti and the five speeches addressed to the Old Continent in his eight years of pontificate. Today, the European reality suffers the harsh impacts of the pandemic, jihadist terrorism, immigration, as well as the multi-crisis of institutions, often dominated by technocratic logics, and is becoming fertile ground for populism, nationalism, and neoliberal proposals. Pope Bergoglio has addressed several times in his eight years of pontificate societies in the process of political integration, in times of great turbulence, urging them to keep in mind community values, the transcendent dignity of the human being, the culture of encounter, and multipolarity/transversality in addressing problems. Likewise, he also asks them not to forget the integrative memory of the past, to face the present and pave the way for a future of hope, with responsibility towards the whole world.
