Aplicación de un modelo econométrico en la educación universitaria

Abstract

En España cada vez hay más colegios que ofrecen el currículo de otro país o el famoso programa de Bachillerato Internacional (IB). La percepción generalizada de que el sistema educativo español resulta anticuado ha llevado a un creciente interés en modelos de educación internacionales. Para evaluar esta cuestión, se ha elaborado una encuesta a estudiantes de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas, obteniendo 144 respuestas válidas. A partir de estos datos, se han aplicado modelos de regresión lineal mediante el método de Mínimos Cuadrados Ordinarios (MCO) utilizando el software Gretl. Además del tipo de bachillerato, el análisis incorpora otras variables como el sexo, rasgos de personalidad y el tipo de residencia, dado que también pueden influir en el rendimiento académico universitario. Los resultados del estudio buscan confirmar las hipótesis sobre si estudiar un bachillerato u otro conlleva mejores calificaciones en la universidad, distinguiendo entre tipo de asignaturas para afirmar el sentido de la influencia. Los modelos no han permitido corroborar las hipótesis iniciales, pero han probado que otras variables sí resultan influyentes en las calificaciones universitarias. En definitiva, este análisis subraya la complejidad de los factores que determinan las calificaciones universitarias y cómo algunos factores que a priori podrían parecer relevantes, no resultan estadísticamente significativos.

In Spain, more and more schools are offering the curriculum of another country or the famous International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The widespread perception that the Spanish education system is outdated has led to a growing interest in international education models. To evaluate this issue, a survey was carried out among students at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, obtaining 144 valid responses. From these data, linear regression models were applied using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method with Gretl software. In addition to the type of baccalaureate, the analysis incorporates other variables such as gender, personality and type of residence, since they can also influence university academic performance. The study's results seek to confirm the hypotheses on whether studying one baccalaureate or another leads to better grades at university, distinguishing between types of subjects to determine the direction of this influence. The models have not been able to corroborate the initial hypotheses, but they have shown that other variables do influence university grades. In short, this analysis highlights the complexity of the factors determining university grades and how certain factors initially considered relevant are not statistically significant.
