ATENTADOS DEL 11 M, RESPUESTA PROFESIONAL Y SECUELAS

Abstract

Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado analiza la intervención de los profesionales de emergencia durante los atentados del 11 de marzo de 2004 en Madrid, poniendo especial atención en las secuelas psicológicas que esta experiencia dejó en ellos. A través de una revisión teórica y de entrevistas en profundidad a intervinientes reales —policías, sanitarios, psicólogos y voluntarios— se exploran los fallos en la coordinación, la falta de protocolos psicológicos y la ausencia de apoyo institucional posterior. El objetivo es visibilizar que, además de salvar vidas, estos profesionales también fueron víctimas indirectas del atentado, al enfrentarse a niveles extremos de sufrimiento sin herramientas emocionales ni respaldo suficiente. Este trabajo pretende aportar una mirada crítica y humana que ayude a transformar los sistemas de respuesta ante futuras emergencias, priorizando no solo la eficacia operativa, sino también el cuidado emocional de quienes actúan en primera línea.

This Final Degree Project analyzes the intervention of emergency professionals during the terrorist attacks of March 11, 2004, in Madrid, with a specific focus on the psychological consequences experienced by those who responded to the tragedy. Through a theoretical review and in-depth interviews with actual responders —including police officers, healthcare workers, psychologists, and volunteers— the study explores the lack of coordination, the absence of structured psychological protocols, and the institutional neglect that followed. The research highlights how these professionals, beyond being agents of assistance, were also secondary victims who faced extreme emotional exposure without proper support or training. This work offers a critical and human perspective aimed at improving future emergency response systems by emphasizing not only operational effectiveness but also the emotional wellbeing of frontline personnel.
