LA INVESTIGACIÓN EN FUENTES ABIERTAS (OSINT) EN EL ÁMBITO DE LA SEGURIDAD Y DEFENSA

Abstract

El Trabajo de Fin de Grado aborda la importancia y utilidad del OSINT en la seguridad y defensa nacional. La investigación se justifica por la creciente relevancia de las fuentes abiertas en la era digital, donde la información pública disponible en internet puede ser crucial para prevenir y resolver delitos, así como para mejorar la toma de decisiones en seguridad. El objetivo general de esta investigación es analizar la utilidad, el uso y el futuro del OSINT en el ámbito de la defensa y seguridad nacional. Para lograr este objetivo, se pretende estudiar en qué medida se utiliza la investigación en fuentes abiertas en las FCSE, identificar el perfil idóneo para ser investigador en fuentes abiertas, examinar los tipos y métodos de obtención de información llevados a cabo en las operaciones, explorar los desafíos a los que se enfrentan los profesionales al investigar en fuentes abiertas, y analizar las opiniones de los expertos sobre cómo la inteligencia artificial afectará al OSINT en el futuro. La metodología utilizada es cualitativa, basada en entrevistas semiestructuradas a profesionales del ámbito de la defensa y seguridad nacional. Estas entrevistas se realizaron online, garantizando la confidencialidad y anonimato de los participantes. La investigación también incluyó una revisión de la literatura existente sobre el tema. Los resultados muestran que el OSINT es una herramienta complementaria pero fundamental en la seguridad nacional, utilizada en diversas áreas como ciberterrorismo, ciberseguridad, inteligencia militar y seguridad en el transporte. Se destaca la importancia de combinar el OSINT con otras disciplinas de inteligencia para maximizar su eficacia. Las líneas futuras de investigación sugieren explorar las diferencias entre el sector público y privado, el papel de la contrainteligencia, y la importancia de la prevención mediante el uso del OSINT.

The Final Degree Project addresses the importance and utility of OSINT in national security and defense. The research is justified by the growing relevance of open sources in the digital age, where publicly available information on the internet can be crucial for preventing and solving crimes, as well as improving decision-making in security.

The general objective of this research is to analyze the utility, use, and future of OSINT in the field of national defense and security. To achieve this objective, it aims to study the extent to which open source investigation is used in the FCSE, identify the ideal profile for an open source investigator, examine the types and methods of information gathering carried out in operations, explore the challenges faced by professionals when investigating open sources, and analyze experts' opinions on how artificial intelligence will affect OSINT in the future.

The methodology used is qualitative, based on semi-structured interviews with professionals in the field of national defense and security. These interviews were conducted online, ensuring the confidentiality and anonymity of the participants. The research also included a review of the existing literature on the subject.

The results show that OSINT is a complementary but fundamental tool in national security, used in various areas such as cyberterrorism, cybersecurity, military intelligence, and transportation security. The importance of combining OSINT with other intelligence disciplines to maximize its effectiveness is highlighted.

Future research lines suggest exploring the differences between the public and private sectors, the role of counterintelligence, and the importance of prevention through the use of OSINT.
