dc.description.abstract | Purpose - This paper provides a comprehensive examination of the transformative impact of financial technology (FinTech) on traditional financial services and its innovative influence on investment management, highlighting how these changes predict future developments in the financial sector. Design/methodology/approach - Drawing on a carefully selected range of seminal and influential literature on FinTech and financial services, this study meticulously unpacks the multifaceted dimensions of the field. It illuminates the core technologies catalysing change, explores the emerging ecosystem of alternative financial platforms, and navigates the complex regulatory terrain shaping the industry. This comprehensive analysis extracts key insights and provides a holistic view of the current state and potential future implications for financial institutions amidst rapid technological evolution. Findings - The study highlights the pivotal role of FinTech in democratising and personalising investment management, significantly improving the accessibility and efficiency of financial services. It also presents the complex regulatory landscape, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that protects consumer interests while encouraging technological progress. Originality/value - By examining the historical roots of FinTech, the disruptive potential of emerging technologies and the regulatory responses, this paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the seismic shifts in the financial industry.
